Leesport Borough Council will host a public meeting to discuss the Wall Street Bridge Project on Wednesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. at the Leesport Fire Company Hall, 11 S. Canal Street.
State Rep. Barry Jozwiak and State Sen. Judy Schwank will be in attendance along with a number of other invited persons who are uniquely connected with this project.
Leesport Borough Council has recently learned that the date for opening of the new bridge was changed, without advisement, from the original contract date of December 27, 2018 to May 17, 2019. It was explained that the time adjustment was due to the delay caused by Met ED in relocating their existing electric lines. As per the original schedule, Met ED was required to complete their work by end of July 2017, however they did not complete the work until October 26, 2017 which prevented the contractor from installing the temporary pedestrian bridge required to provide access for pedestrians and emergency utility vehicle, which delayed the contractor from implementing the closure and demolition of the existing bridge. Due to the delay in utility relocation work the contractor would not be able to complete critical concrete placements for bridge deck and parapet and able to pave the approaches until spring of 2019 when weather is more conducive for this work.
It is council’s hope that this meeting will put to rest a number of rumors that are circulating in the community.
The venue was chosen to accommodate an expected large turnout.
This discussion will occur during the regularly scheduled borough council meeting.
