Woman accused of cutting child with scissors

ELVERSON >> Police have arrested a woman on child abuse charges after she allegedly cut a child’s genitalia with scissors.

Ashley Marie Kase, 23, of Elverson, has been arrested after police received a report of suspected child abuse.

On Jan. 24, the Berks County District Attorney’s Child Abuse Detectives received a ChildLine report of suspected child abuse. During the investigation, detectives learned that a 20-month-old male child was transported to the Ephrata Hospital, Lancaster County, for a laceration on the child’s genitalia.

Berks County Detectives learned that the mother of the child, identified as Kase, intentionally lacerated the child’s genitalia with a pair of scissors. By her own admission, while changing the child’s diaper she grabbed a pair of scissors and purposely cut the victim’s genitalia, police said.


The victim was later transported and treated for his injuries at Penn State Health – Milton S. Hershey Hospital, Hershey. At a later date, the child was discharged to the care of the biological father.

On Feb. 13, detectives obtained a warrant for of arrest for Kase from District Judge David Glass in Birdsboro. She was subsequently apprehended at her place of employment and was transported to the Berks County Sheriff’s Central Processing Unit for processing and arraignment.

Kase is charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. She was arraigned before Judge Glass and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 6 again before Glass.

She was unable to post the set $200,000 bail and is being held at Berks County Prison.
